At a glance: The Huanghai YPD-350N is an intelligent tablet hardness tester from Huanghai Pharmaceutical Instruments (Shanghai, since 1978) that gives a quality control lab hardness and diameter from a single test, with automatic statistics and a traceable record of every run. It tests tablets continuously and carries built-in data integrity features. IQ/OQ document templates are provided; on-site validation is performed by the end user. It follows the apparatus described in USP <1217> and Ph. Eur. 2.9.8; 500 N and 700 N versions are available.

What the Huanghai YPD-350N does for your QC lab
- Wide force range, fine resolution. 10–350 N at 0.01 N resolution (±1.5% ±1 digit), read by a high-precision load cell, covers most tablets. A KIT-HRD-001 calibration kit supports force verification.
- Hardness and diameter in one test. One pass gives both breaking force and tablet diameter (2–25 mm), so there is no second instrument or second step.
- Continuous testing. Run a series of up to 1,000 tablets with an adjustable interval, as fast as 15 seconds per tablet. You load each tablet and the instrument runs the measurement cycle.
- Automatic statistics. Maximum, minimum and mean values are recorded and calculated for you, shown in N or kg (kgf).
- Built-in data integrity. Password login, three permission levels, audit trail, data backup, sample information management and USB export or printing keep every run traceable. The instrument is designed with features that support a 21 CFR Part 11 workflow.
- Chrome-plated mould-steel pressure heads. The drug-contact pressure heads are harder and more wear-resistant than 304 stainless steel, and the chrome plating resists corrosion.
- Viewing window and touch screen. Watch the test through the chamber window and operate from the touch screen. A DC 12 V universal power adapter suits power supplies worldwide.
- Versions for large and bilayer tablets. 500 N and 700 N versions are available on request when your tablets need more force range.

How do N, kp and kgf relate?
1 kp = 1 kgf = 9.807 N, so 100 N is about 10.2 kp.
Does USP specify a hardness test?
USP <1217> describes how tablet breaking force is measured; acceptance limits are set in each product specification. Ph. Eur. 2.9.8 covers the same test. The Chinese Pharmacopoeia has no hardness apparatus chapter.
Which YPD model should I choose?
YPD-200C measures 10–200 N. YPD-350N measures 10–350 N plus diameter 2–25 mm, with user management and audit trail; 500 N and 700 N versions are available. YPD-350N-TK, in development, adds thickness measurement.
Can the Huanghai YPD-350N test tablets continuously?
Yes. Continuous mode runs a series of up to 1,000 tablets with an adjustable interval, as fast as 15 seconds per tablet, and calculates the maximum, minimum and mean values for you.
Which units can it display?
N or kg (kgf), so results match whichever unit your methods use.
