What does USP <1216> specify?
A drum with an inside diameter of 283–291 mm and depth of 36–40 mm, rotated at 25 ± 1 RPM for 100 revolutions. CJY-300E drums are 286 mm × 39 mm.
What is an acceptable friability result?
A maximum mean weight loss of not more than 1.0% is acceptable for most products. If cracked, cleaved or broken tablets are present after tumbling, the sample fails.
How many tablets are tested?
For tablets with a unit weight of 650 mg or less, a sample as close as possible to 6.5 g; for tablets over 650 mg, 10 whole tablets.
Why is weighing done on a separate balance?
Friability is calculated from weights before and after the test. CJY-300E keeps weighing separate by design: drum vibration can disturb a precision balance, so a separate balance gives more reliable results. The tester offers 20–100 RPM with count and timer modes.
